Paris, June 14, 2025 (OLA NEWS PARIS) \u2013<\/strong> Waving handmade signs and chanting anti-Trump slogans, dozens of American expatriates and French sympathizers gathered on Saturday afternoon at Place de la R\u00e9publique in Paris to protest against the return of Donald Trump on the political scene and denounce the actions of ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement). The demonstration, held under the shadow of Marianne and the statue of liberty, was both symbolic and deeply political \u2014 a transatlantic cry against authoritarianism, injustice and far-right populism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The protesters, many dressed in red, white and blue, held up placards reading \u201cNo Kings\u201d<\/em>, \u201cFree Palestine\u201d<\/em>, and \u201cMAGA, You\u2019re Misled\u201d<\/em>, comparing Trump to a monarch and linking his policies to broader global struggles. A theatrical reconstruction of the Statue of Liberty, featuring a raised fist and a masked face, stood at the center of the protest. One sign depicted Trump with tacos in his powdered wig, mocking his authoritarian ambitions with the ironic slogan \u201cLet Them Eat Tacos\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFrom Portland to Paris, we stand united,\u201d read another banner, connecting resistance efforts in the U.S. with those in Europe. Many demonstrators called for solidarity with immigrant communities targeted by ICE and warned against the creeping normalization of fascist rhetoric in both the U.S. and abroad. \u201cIf there\u2019s money for a parade, there\u2019s money for Medicaid,\u201d one protester\u2019s sign read, criticizing Trump’s spending priorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rally took place peacefully, but the atmosphere was charged with a mix of frustration, satire and hope. While the crowd was smaller than during previous anti-Trump gatherings, the message was loud and clear: many American voices abroad reject the former president\u2019s ideology \u2014 and they are ready to vote, protest, and organize against his potential return to power in November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
