France Faces Crisis After Barnier Exit

Paris, December 6, 2024 (OLA NEWS PARIS) – Former European Union chief negotiator Michel Barnier has announced his resignation as a result of a vote of no confidence passed by the French National Assembly. This historic motion marks a significant political blow for Barnier, who has been at the helm of French politics as a prominent figure in recent years.

The vote comes amid growing discontent over his handling of economic reforms and political controversies that have divided the country. In a brief statement, Barnier expressed his respect for democratic institutions, saying, “I accept this decision with humility and responsibility.”

His resignation opens the door to a period of political uncertainty as President Emmanuel Macron will need to designate a new candidate capable of regaining parliamentary confidence.
