Paris, June 24, 2025 (OLA NEWS) – Deputies gathered at the National Assembly this Tuesday at 3 p.m. For over an hour, they questioned the ministers present. The Socialist Party took advantage of the session to announce the filing of a motion of no confidence against François Bayrou’s government. The leader of the Socialist group, Boris Vallaud, reproached the Prime Minister for not having referred the pension reform bill back to Parliament, which would have allowed debate on raising the legal retirement age to 64.
Yesterday, the latest pension summit took place, bringing with it hope for a solution. Unfortunately, after several hours of discussions, no agreement was reached between the unions and employers. In this context, the deputy from Landes inevitably returned to the issue this afternoon. “Despite this failure, will you, as you committed, promptly submit a new bill paving the way for reform, without sacred cows or taboos?” he asked the Prime Minister.

François Bayrou replied that there was a “path to break the deadlock,” without clearly committing. This response led the Socialist Party to file this motion of no confidence with the aim of dissolving François Bayrou’s government. This initiative is also supported by the other main left-wing parties: La France Insoumise, the Communists, and the Greens.
For the motion to be adopted, it will need votes from the « Rassemblement National » which has not yet conditioned its vote on the pension issue. During the same session, the National Assembly also rejected the “Gremillet” bill, which notably proposed restarting nuclear power and halting any new wind and photovoltaic projects.
